The Boys in the Band

by Matt Sheret

I do this about half as often as I should, but I just wanted to shout out to a few friends of mine whose blogs really ought to be on your RSS feeds or bookmarked:

Quintin Smith – Punk Without Borders

Quinns is one of the sharpest writers I know. He’s got a real skill for the alien sensations that accompany foreign travel, but also the sense of escape and adventure that comes from just saying ‘Fuck it! Today I will take the path less trodden.’

His latest series of posts have been fast fiction challenges, set by ten writerly friends of his. Breakfast at Veselka’s was my offering to that particular bundle of Herculean tasks, and it’s a really compelling little ditty.

Andy Kelly – One a Day

AK’s blogs last year, intermittent and erratic as they were, were always a source of amusement. One a Day is his challenge to himself to keep up a consistent and significant blog for the duration of 2009 and beyond. I’ve got my fingers crossed for him. AK can swing from sarcastic to poetic pretty sharply, and picks his targets widely. It should be an interesting one to watch.

Marc Ellerby – Ellerbisms

Marc’s got an audience, and they all love him. The bastard. While Ellerbisms is brutally honest, and funny, this isn’t about pointing you in that direction because you probably read it already (and if you don’t then keep away, lest you fall for him too), but a chance to basically say CONGRATULATIONS to him for Love The Way You Love, his Oni Press series with Jamie S. Rich, being selected as one of 2009’s Great Graphic Novels for Teens by the The Young Adult Library Services Association.

Bastard.
